God’s Heart to My Heart Scripture Contest Entry by Denise & Mel
This song called “Your Grace’ is centered around the Bible verse: Psalm 73:26
My flesh and my heart may fail,
But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
We decided to choose this verse because it resonated the most with the message we wanted to convey and share to our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. The context behind Psalm 73:26 begins with Asaph, a follower of God, who becomes unhappy because he could not understand God’s ways and plans for him. He saw the wicked prosper and the faithful suffer. However, Asaph realizes that even the seemingly easy lives that the wicked and evil have also come with consequences and disaster. Being comfortable and living a life without Christ may seem easier and more attractive to a non-follower of Christ, but the eternal consequences are detrimental. We really resonated with Asaph’s reflection because even though life as a Christian may be more susceptible to suffering and judgment, God has never failed us. We wrote this song, “Your Grace,” to glorify and praise God for all that He has done in our lives. He sent His Son to die on the cross for our sins, so that we would be free from eternal suffering and find peace knowing we are saved. Though we have both experienced many trials and difficulties in our own lives, we cannot discount all the times God has shown us His grace and mercy, poured out His love for us, and reminded us that we are His children. We hope that with this song, we can encourage you to continue trusting in God when your strength is failing and you feel lost. May you be assured that the sufferings you face in this life cannot be compared to the eternal glory and inheritance we all get to experience with Him one day. So it is with joyful hearts, we sing of his wonderful works and glory, for it is Christ who saved us by grace through faith.
